Four students from Trinity College will now represent their college and Ireland at the international engineering and commerce competition in Montreal.
A total of 36 students from nine colleges around the country participated in the competition which took place in the Irish Management Institute (IMI).
For the Challenge, each college had to act as a consulting team, engaged by ESB, to recommend current or emerging eHeat and eTransport technologies applicable to the energy market. The challenge asked each team to undertake research, design, financial analysis and marketing activities to convince ESB to go ahead with their recommendations.

The teams were allocated eight hours to research and design a solution to the task, after which they pitched their idea to an expert panel of judges.
Mr Pat O'Doherty, ESB Chief Executive, commented: "The quality of analysis undertaken by all of the teams over the past two days demonstrates their ability to think critically and creatively about the challenges facing the energy sector in the transition to a low carbon future. The team from Trinity College beat off very stiff competition and are worthy winners to represent Ireland in the international competition in Montreal in 2018. I wish them every success."
