Labour is urgently calling on the government to provide the €45 million funding needed to deliver an Accident & Emergency (A&E) department in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
Funding has been awarded for the design stage, however no funding has been approved for the building work.
Labour Senator Aodhán Ó Ríordáin said: "The announcement of funding for the design stage of a new Emergency Department in Beaumont Hospital is welcome.
"However the actual €45 million needed to deliver the new building has not been budgeted for.
"It's not good enough to say that the project 'should' go ahead in 2019.
"We need to know if building work will start in 2019 or if this is just a publicity stunt.
"We will continue this campaign relentlessly until the government deliver the investment needed for the community of Northside Dublin and beyond."
