Work Continues On Water Mains And Sewer Rehabiltation Scheme In Sligo

Construction News Image
Ward & Burke Contractors has made significant progress on a water mains and sewer rehabilitation scheme in Sligo.

Over 35 per cent of the project is now complete and the pipe laying works are expected to be finished in May 2018.

The works represent a €6.8 million investment by Irish Water in Sligo and will ensure an improved supply to all customers by reducing leakage and bursts. The project will also deliver financial savings over the medium and long term through reduced maintenance costs associated with the upgraded pipeline.

A new road surface has been laid on Thomas Street, Teeling Street, and on the Lower Pearse Road as well as new road markings following the completion of works in the areas.

Works are now progressing on less congested areas of the city and Sligo County Council along with the contractor will continue to liaise with An Garda Síochána to implement traffic management plans where necessary and erect advance warning signage.

Irish Water's Infrastructure Regional Lead Padraig Hanly said: "There has been unavoidable disruption to businesses, motorists and residents during the course of these works and Irish Water and its partners would like to acknowledge this and reiterate our thanks once again to everyone who is impacted but who will ultimately benefit from these works.

"The project team will continue to notify the local community in advance of planned works in their areas and provide contact details should they have any queries."
