Irish Water To Submit CPO To Deliver Howth Water Supply Scheme

Irish Water is submitting the Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) to An Bord Pleanála to acquire lands needed to deliver the Howth Water Supply Scheme.

The firm is working in partnership with Fingal County Council to aquire lands in Howth, Baldoyle, Burrow, Deerpark and Howth Demesne to progress the project.

The CPO relates to land acquisition, permanent wayleaves and temporary construction rights to construct an additional new water storage reservoir at Dungriffen and the a replacement of the trunk water mains that supplies Howth. If granted, the CPO will authorise Irish Water to construct, lay, keep, operate, maintain, renew, repair and inspect the proposed infrastructure required as part of this project.


The project will improve the water supply service to householders and businesses in Howth and surrounding areas. Due to the age, size and condition of the current water infrastructure, customers in certain areas experience water pressure below acceptable levels of service.

William McKnight, Irish Water Regional Lead, said: "This project will improve the security of the water supply for the people of Howth. Once complete the new trunk water mains and additional storage reservoir will provide a more reliable service for customers. The project forms part of Irish Waters investment in upgrading Ireland’s water infrastructure."
