Work To Begin To Upgrade Ageing Watermains In South Kerry

Work is to start to upgrade a ageing watermains in south Kerry.

Irish Water is investing €1 million in the project and the work includes the replacement of a total of 6.1km of watermains in Mountain Stage (Glenbeigh), Ballykissane (Killorglin), Shannera (Beaufort), Cappagh North (Beaufort) and Sneem.

The work is expected to take a total of 22 weeks to complete and is to get underway in the coming weeks.


Temporary traffic management arrangements will be put in place as the work progresses in order to minimise disruption to the public.

Paul Cremin, Irish Water's Capital Programme Regional Lead, commented: "This investment of €1 million by Irish Water to replace these problematic sections of watermain in South Kerry will lead to a major improvement in the security and reliability of water supply for our customers in the area.

"This is part of an ongoing programme of investment by Irish Water throughout Kerry to replace the county’s ageing network of watermains. Due to a lack of investment over many years, many of these mains are in very poor condition and subject to frequent bursts, resulting in disruption of water supply to customers."
