Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe, announced earlier this week in the Summer Economic Statement 2017 that an additional €500m will be put in each of the years 2019-2021, increasing the Government's overall capital investment to €7.8bn by 2021.

Welcoming the additional funding, Engineers Ireland said it agrees that such increases are needed to "improve the resilience of the economy, to address emerging capacity constraints, and to better meet the needs of our people as our economy and society grow".
The organisation also revealed it is due to launch its seventh-annual 'The State of Ireland' Report next week.
The publication's analysis is based on a series of panel discussions of leading expert engineers and decision-makers across the private and public sectors – reflecting the central role played by the engineering profession in the planning, design and delivery of infrastructure.
