Call for Group To Be Established To Oversee Moore Street Restoration

Sinn Féin is calling for a group to be established to oversee the restoration of the Moore Street battlefield site in Dublin.

Spokesperson on Heritage, Peadar Tóibín TD, was speaking following the implementation of the Moore Street Report.

Deputy Tóibín said: "The Moore Street Report was a document which arose from months of meetings with stakeholders, traders and politicians as well as having input from the public. The report is a comprehensive document which respects the integrity and potential of the iconic Moore Street battlefield site.


"While we are very satisfied with the outcome of the report, it will not be meaningful without due action. We are now waiting for the Government to develop an oversight group for the implementation of the recommendations of the Moore Street Report. I am calling on the Government to expedite this process as the timeline for action is diminishing every day.

"The battle to save Moore Street has been an epic one, between that of corporate Ireland and the people of Ireland; whereby big developers have sought to take over the area and to strip its identity and ties with 1916 away from it completely. We have fought against this happening."
