£70,000 Secured To Install And Replace LED Street Lights In Belfast

A total of £70,000 has been secured to install and replace LED street lights in Belfast city centre.

The work will take place in Victoria Street, Donegall Square, Wellington Place, Chichester Street, Howard Street and May Street.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard said: "There are many environmental benefits of using LED lighting. Energy costs should reduce by 30%, which equates to an annual saving of £3,180, light pollution and carbon emissions will reduce by 20,000 kg each year and maintenance costs will also reduce as LED lights have a lifespan of about 20 years.


"I hope to continue the roll out of LED lighting this financial year in Montgomery Road, Fortwillliam Park, St James Road, Moira Roundabout and Upper Knockbreda / Saintfield Road Junction. It is important to strive to realise a more sustainable and economically attractive lighting solution in our towns and cities."
