Sinn Fein Demands Answers Over Ballymun Regeneration

Construction News Image
Sinn Féin is demanding the board of Ballymun Regeneration and Dublin City Council (DCC) answer questions in relation to the tender process surrounding a €6.6million loan to a construction firm.

Dessie Ellis described the situation as "highly unusual".

He said: "I asked the then Minister of State at the Department of Environment, Community, and Local Government Willie Penrose in November 2011 the cost to that date for this development in Sillogue. It had received funding of €33.07 million, for the planning/design, ground works, services and construction. This equates to €267,000 per unit for the 124 units.

"In addition, the Department approved a budget of €9.3 million for the pyrite remediation and completion works. This budget includes the costs of the pyrite testing and remediation, security, and the completion works. If that was the case in 2011, was the loan of €6.6 million in addition to the €9.3 million or part of it?

"It is very important that DCC and Ballymun Regeneration explain this, as it occurs in a situation where the regeneration of Ballymun is not completely finished and now we are now told that part of a six million euro loan was put aside for litigation."
