Irish Water is to invest €245,000 in the project, which will also improve water pressure, reduce leakage on the network and reduce interruptions to the service for customers.
Site investigation work, to establish the position of other utility services in the area and to facilitate the design work for the project, has started and will take two weeks to complete.

The work to replace the aging water main will being in January 2017 and is expected to take approximately two months to complete.
Ivan Corcoran, Programmes Specialist for the East and Midlands region, said: "The replacement of 400 metres of old defective watermains along Monkstown Road will provide a more reliable and secure water supply for customers. We are investing in replacing old watermains across Dublin which will help to reduce leakage in the network to improve services to our customers. This project is part of our ongoing investment in Ireland's water infrastructure."
