Householders Urged To Apply For Winter Fuel Payments

The Alliance Party is urging householders eligible for Winter Fuel Payments to make sure they receive their payments.

The Social Security Agency is currently in the process of sending out the payments which aims to help people pay for home heating oil and make properties more energy efficient.

Alliance Strangford MLA Kellie Armstrong said we need to avoid the situation where someone on a limited budget has to choose to heat or eat.


She said: "No matter what type of fuel is used householders can take positive steps to save money and make their homes more energy efficient. That can include better home insulation, using energy efficient lighting and ensuring boilers are regularly serviced. In many areas householders have joined an oil buying club, where bulk buying can lead to real cash savings. Oil is more expensive if bought in small quantities, so it makes good economic sense to shop around and buy at the best price.
