The network will benefit more than 9,000 residents and tourists in Rush, as well as the environment, and improve the bathing water at South Beach Rush by stopping the discharge of untreated wastewater into the sea.
The project includes the construction of a new network of wastewater pipes to collect wastewater from existing outfalls and overflows to the foreshore at Rush and transfer onwards to the existing wastewater treatment plant at Portrane. Three new pumping stations will be developed at South Shore, North Beach and East Shore, Rush.

The scheme is expected to take two years to complete.
Michael Tinsley, Asset Programmes Manager, Irish Water, said: "This new collection network of wastewater pipes will bring far reaching benefits for Rush and Fingal.
"This much needed project will eliminate the discharge of raw sewage into the sea in Rush and has been a top priority for Irish Water since it took over the responsibility for water and wastewater services in January 2014.
"The construction of a collection network of wastewater pipes which will transfer the wastewater from Rush to the existing wastewater treatment plant at Portrane is of vital importance in protecting and maintaining water quality for the benefit of the local community and the many tourists that visit the area."
Senator James Reilly added: "The construction of the new network of wastewater pipes and pumping stations for Rush is a hugely important milestone in the history of the town.
"The people of Rush have waited for many years for this day and as a local Senator I'm very pleased to have played a part in its delivery.
"I welcome the positive impact this work will have on allowing for long-awaited infill development in the area and on making our beautiful beach safe again for the residents of Rush and tourists alike."
