New Centre Of Excellence Opens In Dunsilly

Construction News Image
A new centre of excellence has officially opened in Dunsilly for the GAA and County Antrim Gaels.

Sinn Féin MLA Declan Kearney described it as a "landmark occasion".

He said: "This is the climax of a project now ten years in the making. Many difficulties and challenges have had to be overcome in the intervening period.

"The £800,000 awarded by former DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilin, and substantial investment by the GAA itself were essential in getting here.

"The highlight of proceedings was the sight of hundreds of young Gaels both girls and boys, from across County Antrim, playing on the four new pitches.

"A new era has dawned for the development of Gaelic sports in County Antrim. That is a tribute to the efforts of successive County Antrim Boards, and leadership of among others Frankie Quinn, Jim Murray, and current County Chairperson Collie Donnelly and his committee. It is also testament to the efforts of Naomh Comhghall Chairperson Paddy Quinn and his committee. Their contribution has been and remains central to the success of the Dunsilly centre. I wish them all well for the future."
