Call For Water Charges To Be Scrapped 'Once And For All'

Construction News Image
Sinn Féin is calling for water charges in Ireland to be scrapped "once and for all".

The party made the call before it launches a motion to abolish the charges before the Dáil on Wednesday, 28 September.

TD for Meath West and Chairperson of the Meath Right2Water campaign, Peadar Tóibín, is also seeking cross party support from Fianna Fáil.

Teachta Tóibín said: "Irish citizens have made their voices heard on numerous occasions over the last two years with successful national and local demonstrations to abolish water charges. Irish people have also had their say at the ballot box, with an election that has returned a majority of TDs who ran on a platform of ending water charges.

"We must now act to abolish water charges once and for all. Sinn Féin are bringing a motion to the Dáil this Wednesday to scrap water charges. This means that Fianna Fáil must finally make good their promises and support the Sinn Féin motion to abolish, not just suspend the water charges.

"This motion, co-signed by all TDs under the Right2Change movement, will give an opportunity to Fianna Fáil to put their money where their mouth is and act on the issue."
