Serious Concerns Raised Over Nuclear Plant At Sellfield

Serious concerns have been raised over nuclear safety at Sellafield.

A BBC Panorama investigation, to be aired tonight, 05 September, has revealed the sharing of confidential information as well as lost electronic equipment and papers.

SDLP South Down MP Margaret Ritchie called on the Government to address the issues immediately.


She said: "The Government must immediately undertake a review of all security procedures to ensure they fit to protect the public.

"The risks and failings already apparent at Sellafield show the dangers of nuclear power and the burden it puts on future generations. With the Government currently rethinking the future of Hinkley Point C, the Prime Minister should take the warnings coming from Sellafield very seriously and permanently move our electricity generation away from nuclear power and towards low carbon, genuinely sustainable sources, like wind and solar."
