Families In Co Meath To Benefit From Rent Supplement Increase

Families in Co Meath will see an increase in rent supplement of between €180 and €250 a month, according to Fianna Fáil.

The rent supplement is part of a wider package of measures to address the housing crisis throughout Ireland.

TD for Meath East Thomas Byrne said the increase will go a long way in helping residents secure their homes.

He said: "Fianna Fáil brought forward concrete proposals to tackle the housing emergency in our General Election manifesto, one of which was an increase in rent supplement. This key issue was a major part of our discussions with Fine Gael and one that we were not prepared to back down on. Our determination to get agreement on this issue resulted in a deal being struck and the announcement of rent supplement increases yesterday.


"While we welcome the increase in rent supplement, it is only one element of a much wider package of measures that are needed to tackle the housing crisis. This includes building more social and affordable homes and ensuring that rents are reasonable. The Government should examine and implement the recommendations of the all-party Oireachtas Housing Committee without delay so that this emergency can be brought under control."
