Bin Charges To Be Frozen For One Year

The announcement that bin charges are to be frozen for one year has been slammed by Sinn Fein.

Mr Dessie Ellis TD said the issue is not the pay by weight but the increase in standing charges.

Mr Ellis said: "Sinn Féin will still table their motion in the Seanad today, 22 June, to annul the legislation. This legislation and the price freeze announced today don't seem to benefit anyone except the waste collection companies.

"The price freeze will postpone the problem of price hikes by 12 months and allow the companies to fine tune their PR. By defeating this bill in the Seanad, it will allow us the time to reassess the privatisation agenda and put a stop to any further attempts at gouging ordinary people."
