Nine new listings to protect buildings in the Lisburn and Castlereagh Council area have been announced.
The series of early Georgian townhouses at 41-43, 49 and 51 Market Square date from the early 18th century and are amongst the oldest known buildings in Lisburn City Centre.
Another well known building to be listed is 41 Railway St/2 Bachelor's Walk. Constructed in 1848 as the Railway Hotel, to take advantage of the arrival of the railway station facing it, the building continued as a hotel until the mid-twentieth century when it became a bar and restaurant.
Nearby on Bridge Street, the most important commercial thoroughfare in Lisburn during the 17th and 18th centuries, the late-eighteenth century building at Number 19 has also been listed.
Outside Lisburn City, there are three new listings from Brookhill Demesne estate, which is over 300 years old. Whilst the main house has long since been demolished, a Tudor revival tower and a Chinese inspired roof on the north east gate of the farmyard, alongside other historically significant garden features will be protected to maintain an insight into the development of Brookhill Demesne over three centuries.
Also listed is 'Denmoy', a late 19th Century Victorian House on the Ballylesson Road. Used as a dispensary during the second half of the nineteenth century, the detached five-bay two-storey house and outbuildings retains a wealth of internal and external historic details.
