Water Distribution Network To Be Upgraded In Co Kerry

Construction News Image
Kerry County Council has partnered with Irish Water to invest €3.5 million to upgrade the water distribution network in mid Kerry.

The work includes the replacement of almost 20km of water mains that have been subject to frequent bursts. The water mains replacement work will benefit customers across mid Kerry by significantly improving the security of the water supply, reducing leakage and increasing water pressure to homes and businesses.

Further work to replace 2.5km of a 300mm trunk water main is currently taking place in the town. Work will commence shortly on Board of Works Road in Killorglin to replace 0.5km of water main. Later in the year three further projects will take place in Gearha, which include the replacement of 1.55km of water main in Kilgobnet/Meanus Cappagh North and 1.75km in Kilgobnet/Meanus Cappagh South and the replacement of 1.1km of water main from Reen to Ballykissane.

Aisling Buckley, Regional Information Officer with Irish Water said: "Irish Water is investing €3.5 million to upgrade almost 20km of water mains right across the mid Kerry region. This investment will ensure customers in the area will have a more reliable and secure water supply. Providing a safe and secure water supply for the communities in mid Kerry is a key objective for Irish Water."
