Call For Moore Street To Be Developed Into Historical National Quarter

Sinn Féin is urging the Minister for Arts and Heritage to develop 14-17 Moore Street in Dublin and the surrounding areas into a historical national quarter.

Sinn Féin TD and Heritage Spokesperson Sandra McLellan said if the sites were developed into a historic battlefield site it would encourage more tourists to visit Ireland.


Questioning Minister Heather Hunphries, Deputy McLellan said: "Minister, the people of Ireland have a vision for this site. Would you not agree that if 14-17 Moore St and the surrounding areas were developed as a historic battlefield site, that it would be a huge tourist attraction, and of significant economic benefit to the city, as well as encouraging repeat visitors to the city?

"The Minister was quick to dismiss this, by claiming that this was not within her remit, although this is in relation to both culture and heritage."
