Emergency Services Rescue 10 People Following Major Flooding

Emergency Services have rescued 10 people from a housing development in Strabane, Co Tyrone, following major flooding.

The Fire Service dealt with over 30 flooding incidents in NI with counties Tyrone, L'Derry and Fermanagh among the worst affected.

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MLA Declan McAleer said: "Major flooding seem to have become a yearly problem and I would urge the Regional Development Minister to take steps to better prevent flooding by identifying those areas most prone to it.


"Every year it seems that the same areas are the worst effected and it is incumbent on the Minister to ensure that every available remedy is utilized to address the problem.

"Former DRD Minister Danny Kennedy was warned of the consequence of his false economy approach to spending priorities and this weekend’s flooding is testament to his failure to listen.

"Householders should apply immediately for financial assistance for any damage or loss they have suffered."
