Special Needs School Receives Funding For Building Work

A special needs school in Co Cavan has received funding for essential building work to be carried out.

The Holy Family School Cootehill were awarded the funds under the Department of Education's 2016/2021 Schools Buildings Programme.

Sinn Féin's Seanad Education spokesperson, Senator Kathryn Reilly, welcomed the news and said the work must start as soon as possible.


She said: "For over 15 years parents have been campaigning on an ongoing basis to try and deliver funding for the school, the news that funding has finally been granted is a testament to their hard work and must come as both a great victory and a great relief.

"For the past number of years I have raised this issue in the Seanad, this year alone I raised it on the 11th and 15th June. On October 1st I called on the Minister to use the capital plan to allocate funding for the school and I am glad that this has materialised. But I am delighted for all those associated with the campaign, who after 15 years, numerous Education ministers and countless false starts, have finally seen funding granted for the school."
