What Would Happen If Irish Water Was Abolished? - Labour

Labour is calling on the trade unions involved in the Right to Water campaign to explain what would happen if Irish Water was abolished.

Labour TD Roberts Dowds also said the campaign is "playing in to the hands of Sinn Féin, a party with so many skeletons in its cupboard that it is in a scramble to secure votes".

Deputy Dowds ssaid: "Right2Change want to get rid of Irish Water, but can they tell us what is going to replace it? What is going to happen to the current workers in Irish Water? How is the supply of water to be paid for after Irish Water is abolished?


"The political parties associated with Right2Change opposed paying refuse charges. What happened after their campaign? All refuse collection was privatised leading to an inferior and more expensive service. Worse than that, the secure jobs of the council refuse workers disappeared in favour of more inferior positions where the workers have reduced working conditions. Surely the trade unions behind Right2Change don’t want a repeat of this?"
