Call For Dublin City Council To Speak Up Over Prospect Hill Safety Concerns

Sinn Féin is calling on Dublin City Council to release a statement about the safety of an apartment block in Prospect Hill, Finglas.

62 units have been left unoccupied for six or seven years following serious health and safety concerns.

Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Dessie Ellis TD is also calling on the Environment Minister to address the issue immediately.


Mr Ellis said: "Two years ago the block was passed to a Voluntary Housing Body by NAMA and potential residents were interviewed and allocated units. That was over a year ago and since then the residents were made aware of serious health and safety concerns that needed to be addressed. As a result, many of the residents were relocated as well as some others left in limbo.

"There is also a suggestion that surrounding apartment blocks (of about 500 units) constructed during the same period, may also have similar health and safety issues.

"Should this be the case, it is the responsibility of NAMA and Dublin City Council to ensure transparency of process and issue appropriate and timely communications to affected residents."
