Housing Lists In Dublin And Fingal To Be Reduced

Housing lists in Dublin and Fingal are to decrease by 21% and 23% respectively after the government pledged to deliver over 4,700 social housing units by the end of 2017.

Dublin Bay North Labour TD Sean Kenny welcomed the announcement and confirmed a total of €373,235,868 is to be invested in Dublin City and Fingal.

Mr Kenny said: "Dublin councils will also be assigned housing targets that are in excess of what they suggested in the initial stages of the social housing strategy.

"This means that each council can deliver housing units where the need for them is the most urgent. All of this is possible thanks to the massive €3.8bn social housing strategy budget that was announced by Minister Alan Kelly at the last Budget. Now we are seeing the benefits of that strategy starting to take hold at a local level.

"We have a serious housing problem in Dublin City and in Fingal but this Government is determined to tackle the crisis in a very direct way. I've been involved with the work being done by the Labour Parliamentary Party group on Housing and also with Dublin City and Fingal Labour councillors locally to ensure that the communities and local areas that I represent get their fair share of funding that will build houses for the people that need them.

"For example, in Coolock there will be 62 new builds going ahead at Bunratty and further projects will be announced in the coming weeks and months."
