Clare County Council has announced it is to take part in ESB's National Tree Week on Monday 2 March.
The council will be hosting a tree planting ceremony at Millennium Park in Kilrush at 2pm.
Councillor John Crowe, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council will join representatives from Kilrush Community School, Kilrush National School and the Kilrush Tidy Towns Committee for the launch which ties in with the town representing Ireland in the 'Town' category of the international Entente Florale Competition.
The theme of ESB National Tree Week 2015, 1 March 2015 to 9 March 2015, is 'I Love Trees' and Clare County Council and the Tree Council of Ireland are providing trees to community groups around the county who have expressed an interest in planting native trees in public areas.
"Trees play many important roles in our environment and they also enhance our villages, towns and our homes by providing places of refuge and beauty. The beginning of March is an ideal time to get planting, so I would like to invite everyone in the wider Kilrush area to come along to the tree planting ceremony on Monday 2nd March 2015," said Cllr. Crowe.
"There are so many groups active in Kilrush doing incredible work, and we should support them at every opportunity. As well as promoting Kilrush's participation in the 2015 Entente Florale competition, the upcoming tree planting ceremony will also provide a wonderful opportunity to get the young people of the wider Kilrush involved in positive environmental action."
