Call For Boland's Mill Redevelopment Plans To Be Reviewed

A local Sinn Féin Councillor is calling for more residential housing units to be built on the Boland's Mill site in Dublin.

Chris Andrews supports the redevelopment plans in principle, however he said building 42 units is "totally inadequate" and "doesn't come close" to addressing the housing crisis.

Mr Andrews said: "Only 11 units will be three bedroomed, which will not encourage families to move into the redevelopment.

"There is a living community in the surrounding area, both young and old and this development does nothing to support this community. The proposed plans also do nothing to commemorate the historical significance of this site.


"The plans fail to create a community space for young people, which to me is another missed opportunity. For example, Dublin Bay South is the only council area that has a boxing development officer and no boxing club. This lack of community space could have been addressed by these redevelopment plans.

"I strongly support the plans to redevelop the site but the plans need to seriously address the twin issues of community and sustainability. Independent and Fianna Fáil councillors believe that this development should prioritise office space but Sinn Féin and I believe that it's an opportunity to address housing shortage in the communities of Ringsend and Pearse Street and beyond."
