Call For Road Upgrades In County Mayo

Fianna Fáil is calling for a strategic road plan for south Mayo to accommodate the high volumes of industrial traffic passing through the region.

TD for Galway West Éamon Ó Cuív said he has been pressing Mayo County Council to invest further in the road network.

He said: "Following consistent campaigning by local Fianna Fáil politicians, €2.5 million euro was invested in the N84 Ballinrobe to Shrule road; however there is a need for greater investment to improve this seriously deficient route. Work has also commenced on the fencing of the Galway section of the N84 between Headford and Clonboo, which is very deficient. The Council has already indicated that it will commence design work on the Clonbur to Cong road as well as the Cong to Cross road in 2015, and I am urging members to ensure that the design work is undertaken in a speedy manner so that the upgrades can be carried out when money becomes available."
