Concern Over Broken Street Lights In Strabane

The SDLP is becoming increasingly concerned over broken street lights in Strabane.

Councillor Patsy Kelly said he will push DRD Road Service on why it is not fixing the problem when departmental representatives appear before Strabane District Council today, 10 December.

Cllr Kelly said: "Instead of implementing a top-down approach to cost cutting they are stripping away vital services.


"Certain street lights were initially placed in areas where people felt vulnerable walking at night and areas where there is a danger of tripping. To not fix bulbs in these areas is totally unacceptable. In Strabane town alone, there are up to 300 bulbs out, with the figure rising.

"This matter will also be brought to the Policing and Community Safety Partnership because it crosses over departmental boundaries. Not only is it a road service issue, but presses on area of crime prevention."
