Council Calls For Communities To Join An 'Oil Buying Club'

People living in Belfast are being urged to join an 'oil buying club', which saves money for members by purchasing home heating oil as a group, receiving the best rate per litre.

The club is an initiative brought by Belfast City Council and supported by the Public Health Agency.

The oil buying clubs initiative is designed to help tackle the issue of fuel poverty which affects many residents across the city. Anyone can set up an oil buying club, but to encourage their set up the council has offered local capacity groups a one-off grant to develop and promote oil clubs in local communities.


Councillor Steven Corr, Chair of the Health and Environmental Committee, said: "The oil buying club toolkit is a handy guide to help local communities set up their own clubs and in turn, reduce costs of their home heating. Oil buying clubs can help households save up to £30 per each delivery, which is a huge saving for families, particularly at this time of year."
