Fine Gael is calling for Cavan to be considered as a potential location for a new housing development.
FG TD for Cavan/Monaghan, Joe O’Reilly, has already made representations to the Minister of State with Special Responsibility for Housing, Paudie Coffey TD on the issue.
He said: "Speaking to people on the ground, over recent months it has become clear that there is an increased demand for houses to buy and to rent in Cavan. With this in mind I have made representations to the Minister for Housing promoting Cavan as a prime location for development.
"Huge investment has been made by the Government in Cavan, in particular in water and sewerage systems which are essential to construction. As this infrastructure is now in place, Cavan is ready for growth.
"€714,600 has been invested in Cavan Town sewerage and water systems, €600,000 in Bailieborough, €1.3 million in Mullagh and €1.2 million in Ballyjamesduff. It is a great tribute to Government that this investment has been made in County Cavan and we are also fortunate to have a very proactive and progressive County Council."
