FF Concerned Following Fracking Announcement

Fianna Fáil has voiced its concerns after Tamboran Resources confirmed it plans to drill a scientific bore-hole at the site in Belcoo, County Fermanagh.

Cllr Michael Moynihan is calling on the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to explain what type of drilling is taking place, as the party is against hydraulic fracturing.

He said: "I am concerned at the confirmation by Tamboran Resources that they will shortly begin drilling scientific holes at Belcoo in County Fermanagh. This process could take up to 30 days and involve drilling 750 metres deep; the community in nearby County Leitrim is rightly worried as to what this may lead to. The purpose of the drilling is to explore the possibility of fracking in the future and Tamboran have made no secret of this.

"There has been no environmental study carried out to my knowledge regarding the impact of this drilling on water supplies and the wider implications on the communities in Leitrim and Cavan.

"I am calling on the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Alex White, to outline what, if any, environmental impact assessment has been done. "
