Cork Residents Urged To Share Their Views On Proposed Flood Relief Works

People from Cork are being urged to attend a Public Information Day to share their views on proposed flood relief works on the River Lee.

Environmental Consultants will be available at Cork City Hall today, 29 July, from 2pm to 9pm to answer any questions relating to the scheme.

Minister for Europe and Fine Gael TD for Cork North Central, Dara Murphy, is encouraging everyone to go along to assess the plans.


Mr Murphy said: "Unfortunately over the last decade, the River Lee has been the source of much heartbreak for the people of Cork as flood after flood left homes and businesses damaged, at great financial cost.

"This Flood Relief Scheme is a crucial measure in ensuring that such damage is avoided in the future. The Scheme will cover the area from Inniscarra Dam to downstream of Cork City on the River Lee, and it will also include proposals for Blackpool and Ballyvolane which are affected by tributaries of the River Lee.

"Following this public consultation, it is expected that the detailed design phase will commence in the second quarter of 2015, with the procurement of civil works contractor to begin towards the end of 2015."
