€347,200 Allocated For Urgent Conservation Works

Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan has announced the allocation of €347,200 to five local authorities for urgent conservation and preservation works to five heritage structures of national significance.

The allocation will assist with works to safeguard a number of important buildings and monuments protected under the Planning and Development Act or under the National Monuments Acts.


The heritage structures funded are all of significant special interest.

Minister Deenihan said: "I am delighted to be able to support urgently needed conservation work to these highly important structures. Our national built heritage is a valuable asset which, as well as enriching our environment, generates considerable economic activity in tourism, construction and related industries."

The amounts recommended are between €60,000 and €80,000:

Kildare County Council Grey Abbey, Kildare €66,965

Kerry County Council Ballybunion Castle €80,000

Wexford County Council Crimean Monument, Ferrycarrig €72,500

Waterford City Council 4 &5 Cathedral Square, Waterford €67,735

Cork County Council St. Mary’s Collegiate Church,Youghal €60,000
