Call For Discussions To Take Place About Narrow Water Bridge Project

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has asked for the construction of a cross-border bridge at Narrow Water to be on the agenda at the next meeting of the North South Ministerial Council.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny recently said the project, which was stalled last year, should be revisited. The deputy First Minister said the project, a collaboration between Down District Council, Newry and Mourne District Council and Louth County Council, would reinvigorate the border area.


"This is an important infrastructural project which would be of tremendous benefit to communities on both sides of the border. Not only would it provide a much-needed boost to the construction industry, tourism, and local people but it would also be an impressive symbol of co-operation across the island," he said.

"I have asked that the Narrow Water bridge project should be discussed at the next meeting of the North South Ministerial Council so this landmark development can be taken forward to the next stage."
