Pupils Give A Spring Makeover To NIHE Site

Green fingered pupils from Holy Child Primary School have helped the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) give a spring makeover to a site it owns in West Belfast.

The site, which is located at the junction of Glen Road and Bingnian Drive, had recently been regraded. During the makeover, Year Seven pupils from Holy Child Primary School helped the NIHE create a herbaceous bed, a shrub bed and a wildflower bed, all of which are visible from the Glen Road. To complete the look, five silver birch trees were planted and the remaining area was re-turfed.

Speaking about the project, Malachy Brennan, NIHE's Grounds Maintenance Manager for Belfast said: "The fact that there is a pylon in the middle of the site means it doesn't lend itself to everything so we thought we would enlist a little bit of help and creativity in the form of pupils from nearby Holy Child Primary School.

"I have to say that as in previous projects the pupils have been involved with us in, their enthusiasm was second to none. They really got into it and weren't afraid to get their hands dirty to help us bring about what can only be described as the transformation of this very prominent site.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the school for agreeing to participate in the project and hope that the pupils involved will be justifiably proud when they see their handiwork in full bloom."
