Turley Associates To Design Proposals For Mixed-Use Scheme

Turley Associates has been appointed the design team to take forward a planning application for the Queen's Parade Development Scheme.

Turley Associates will be required to design proposals for a major mixed-use scheme and obtain planning approval. In May 2013, the Department stepped in to purchase the site when private sector development plans for Queen's Parade stalled. Further investment is now being made through the provision of a design team with proven expertise in taking forward large comprehensive mixed-use developments.

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said: "I am delighted to announce that my Department have appointed Turley Associates to design this significant development scheme at Queen's Parade, Bangor.

"Turley's have been tasked with designing a scheme that will greatly enhance the Queen's Parade area and obtain planning approval by March 2015.

"As Minister for Social Development I am aware of the difficulties that have been encountered with previous plans to develop this key area of Bangor and following the failure to progress this important project I instructed my Department to acquire the site.

"Bangor is renowned for being a significant part of the Co. Down coastline and the regeneration of the Queen's Parade area will act as a catalyst for the whole town and will compliment the recent renovations around the Pickie Fun area and Marina.

"This appointment is another positive step toward bringing forward a comprehensive regeneration scheme for Queen's Parade which will make the town more attractive to residents and visitors and inject new life into the area.

"My Department will ensure that the Design Team works closely with North Down Borough Council and key stakeholders in Bangor to achieve a scheme that will maximise the towns unique identity."
