Man Fined For Waste Offences

Mr Thomas Patrick Woodside of Castletown Road, Ballynure, was fined a total of £600 at Laganside Magistrates’ Court today for breaches of waste management legislation.

In September 2012, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency investigated a site adjacent to Castletown Road, Ballynure where a quantity of construction and demolition material was deposited.


Mr Woodside admitted being in control of the site.

A further visit in May 2013 confirmed the waste was still on site. Officers identified over 6,600 tonnes of waste on site, including soil, stone, concrete and brick. The site did not have a waste management licence or an exemption to deposit or store controlled waste.

Mr Woodside pleaded guilty to three waste charges under The Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997 and was fined £200 under Article 4(1)a of the Order, and £200 under each of two Article 4(1)(b)’s of the Order, with court costs of £31.50.
