Carthy To Host Anti-Pylons Campaign Groups

Sinn Féin candidate for the EU Midlands North West constituency, Matt Carthy, has announced that he is to host a fringe event at the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis on the issue of proposed plans by EirGrid and NIE to impose pylon supported high voltage power lines on communities across the island.

Mr Carthy made the announcement at the launch of the party's Ard Fheis clár in Dublin.


Councillor Carthy said: "I am pleased to announce that I will host a fringe meeting at the party's Ard Fheis in Wexford entitled 'Listening to communities - Opposing Plyons'.

"The meeting will hear from representatives of a number of campaigning groups from north and south.

"These groups have been campaigning tirelessly for the undergrounding of high voltage power lines, yet their voices have been largely excluded from the debate and ignored by government.

"Sinn Féin wants to listen to all those who are concerned about the health, environmental and economic impact that the proposed pylons will have on rural communities."
