£3.4m Announced For Maintenance Schemes In Ballymoney

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has set out a Roads Service's progress on investment totalling £3.4m for road improvement and maintenance schemes in the Ballymoney area this year.

The Minister said: "A wide range of road improvement and maintenance schemes are planned or have already been completed in the Ballymoney Council area and the autumn round of council meetings is a timely opportunity for councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities."

The Minister has welcomed being able to move forward with the £65m A26 dualling scheme. The project will involve the provision of seven kilometres of dual carriageway between Glarryford and the A44 Drones Road (the Ballycastle Fork).

The Minister said: "This decision will help to progress the delivery of this long-awaited scheme. I have worked hard to secure wider support for this project to be brought forward and am fully aware of the benefits it will bring to the local economy and the public.

"The next step will be the publication of the Departmental statement which is my consideration of the Inspector's findings into the public inquiry for the scheme."

At the meeting, Principal Engineer Colin Hutchinson highlighted a number of improvement and maintenance schemes completed or being progressed.

These included the completion of the hard landscaping of the southern traffic island at Dunloy crossroads on the A26 Frosses Road which will enhance the visibility for southbound traffic on the A26 turning right towards Dunloy and the proposal to erect safety barrier on both sides of the B93 Killagan Road at Drumadoon Bridge.
