Mr Phil Hogan T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, has announced the recipients of grant funding under the 2013 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund.
The projects are being co-funded by the Department and Local Authorities. €400,000 is being provided by the Department, with a matching amount of €400,000 being provided by local authorities, bringing total funding under the 2013 scheme to €800,000, which is an increase of €126,000 over 2012 funding. In addition to the funding provided by the Department and the Local Authorities, the successful applicants have also raised additional funds locally, bringing the total shared partnership investment to over €1.4 million.
The Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund promotes sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at a local level. Projects are recommended for funding by local authorities following an open call for applications. Funding goes to a wide range of local initiatives; including community gardens, waste reduction and biodiversity projects.
Minister Hogan said: "I'm delighted to have increased the funding being provided under this year’s scheme. The scheme fosters sustainable development by funding a wide range of local environmental initiatives – over 650 projects are being funded this year. I'm delighted that my Department, in conjunction with the local authorities can help to make these projects happen and can assist the good work that’s being done in communities right across the country."
