Call For N4 To Be Included In Toll Free Initiative For Hauliers

Senator Marc Mac Sharry has criticised the Government for not including the N4 in the Toll Free initiative for the month of November.

The toll has been lifted on four routes for the month of November for Hauliers to see boost HGV use of these roads. The initiative applies to the M1, M3, M6 and Limerick tunnel but the N4 has been left out.

Senator Mac Sharry has described it as 'discrimination against the North West'.

"People are struggling to understand why the main route to the North West has been left out of this initiative. It is further evidence of this Government’s disregard for the region. There is no reason why the N4 cannot be included in this initiative in a bid to boost commercial travel on the route. But once again, the needs of this region seem to be ignored," said Senator Mac Sharry.

"There are obvious benefits to increasing commercial traffic on routes to the North West. But it seems there is one rule for this region and another for other regions. This divide between East and West must stop. The people and businesses of the North West deserve better.

"I am calling on the Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar and Minister of State for Small Business John Perry to include the N4 as part of Toll Free November for Hauliers," Senator Mac Sharry said.
