Minister Contacts DOE And NI Water Regarding Newtownards Flooding

Strangford DUP MLA, Jonathan Bell has today contacted DOE Roads Service and Northern Ireland Water regarding the flooding on Belfast Road, Newtownards this morning.

Mr Bell said: "My Office this morning has been communicating with DOE Roads Service and Northern Ireland Water regarding the flooding on the Belfast Road in Newtownards. I have been advised that the PSNI and Roads Service will keep the road closed until around 5pm this afternoon following the damage caused to the road by the flooding.


"It seems that a major water main junction burst and this had led to the problems now affecting this busy road and commuters to and from the town. I am also advised that around 30 properties in the area are without any water and this will remain the case until this evening.

"I hope that a temporary fix can be established as soon as possible so that local properties can be reconnected to the water mains and also that the Belfast Road can open again before the busy traffic returning from work can get home without too much problems. I am encouraged that Roads Service, NI Water and the PSNI are working effectively together to get this matter rectified as soon as possible."
