Building Of New Hospital Is Ahead Of Schedule

Health Minister Edwin Poots has visited the site of the new Omagh Hospital Project.

The Minister said he was impressed with progress on the site, which is running ahead of schedule.

Mr Poots said: "It is clear that the local hospital for Omagh has come on leaps and bounds since I allocated £80million for this phase of the project, increasing the total investment figure to £107million. The Enabling Works are nearing completion, ahead of programme, and I am delighted that construction work on the new hospital is due to commence before the end of the year."

This phase of the hospital project will include:

• A Local Hospital including 40 Intermediate Care beds;

• A Health & Care Centre, including GP Accommodation;

• A 24 place renal dialysis unit;

• Urgent Care and Treatment Centre;

• Outpatients Department;

• Day Case Theatre;

• Imaging Centre;

• Children's Department;

• Allied Health Professionals;

• Women's Health Department;

• A new Central Sterile Supplies Department; and

• An Energy Centre.

The Minister said: "This new hospital will undoubtedly be a tremendous asset for the local population. It will offer a wide range of integrated services and this is exactly the type of service model I want to see going forward. I am particularly pleased to see a health and care centre which will provide a hub for the area."
