Call For Audit On Water Services To Be Published

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on the Environment, Barry Cowen TD, says the installation of water meters throughout the country, which has already begun, highlights the need for a full audit of the exact cost of the process to be published.

Deputy Cowen commented: "While we acknowledge the installation of water meters has begun, let's hope the process is smooth and does not cause undue disruption to householders and their water supply.


"However, we are still awaiting a detailed audit of the cost involved including expenditure on rectification works, addressing leakage problems and dealing with ongoing water shortages in Dublin. There was a commitment from Irish Water to publish a complete audit once they were awarded the contract but we have yet to see this even though the installation process has started.

"If householders are to be charged for water then they deserve to know that the process is fit for purpose. We are still vague on detail as to the timeline for water charges. How realistic is the target to commence charging by 2015? What quality and standard of service can people expect?"
