Revitalisation Scheme Announced For Ballycastle

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced funding of £250,000 for a Revitalisation scheme in Ballycastle.

The scheme will focus on Castle Street and Clare Street which is part of the designated conservation area of the town centre. Its aims are to restore many of the historic buildings and bring vitality back into this part of the town.

Minister McCausland said: "I am pleased to announce this £250,000 investment in the historic town of Ballycastle. It is recognised that almost half of the buildings eligible to apply for support have a built heritage status. This means that there are certain standards set for the work carried out on these buildings. I welcome the advisory role played by other statutory bodies which will aid Moyle District Council and the local trader representatives in delivering this scheme.

"The scheme itself will help promote Ballycastle as an attractive and charming destination, encouraging new visitors and shoppers and helping existing businesses to improve their capacity to trade. I hope that the traders and property owners take full advantage of this funding and look forward to seeing it all take shape by Spring next year. It will certainly contribute positively to the long term viability and prosperity of the town."

The main works included in the scheme are upgrading of shop frontages, building facades and gables through painting, replacing rainwater goods, windows and signage. Moyle District Council will be responsible for its delivery in conjunction with traders and local representatives of the town.
