Pres. Field Site Sold

Fine Gael Dun Laoghaire Deputy, Mary Mitchell O'Connor, has said the sale of the Pres. Field in Glasthule secures the site for community and local use, which will come as a welcome relief to residents.

She said: "News that the Pres. Field in Glasthule has been bought by the County Manager from Ben Dunne is fantastic news for local residents, our young sporting hopefuls and for the entire local area.

"It is no secret that this land has been at the centre of a long and protracted history, with the future development of the site at the heart of the controversy. News that the field has now been purchased by the County Manager means that it has been saved and that its future has been secured for community and local use.

"The four-acre field at Hudson Road is among the last open space in the Dun Laoghaire area. The development of these lands for sporting facilities will benefit the local communities immensely, as well as having a positive environmental impact. If we equip our young people with the tools to better themselves, they will take the lead. This development will encourage not only our young people, but all people, to get out, get active and get involved in physical sporting activity and local community events.

"I am delighted that these lands are now in the ownership of the County Council, who will put them to the use that will be most advantageous for the local areas and the people who will utilise them. It is crucial that County Council, residents and local sporting organisations now come together to devise a mutually workable plan to ensure a win-win situation for all group."
