Castledonovan Castle Restoration Nears Completion

Fianna Fáil Senator Denis O'Donovan has welcomed confirmation that Castledonovan Castle near Drimoleague will open this summer after a protracted refurbishment project.

It was confirmed that Castledonovan or O'Donovan's Castle restoration project is near completion and should be open to the public during the summer.


Mr O'Donovan said: "This is a project that I have had a keen interest in since I joined Cork County Council in 1985,” said Senator O’Donovan.

"At that time, as part of the National Monument Committee in the Council, I managed to divert funding to restoration projects in West Cork.

"I vigorously pursued the revamp of Castledonovan Castle as it was in danger of collapse and I continued to do so in the Oireachtas. The castle has since been protected and restored after many years of campaigning. There is a lot of history attached to the castle and it forms an important part of the tourism potential of West Cork."
