Fine Gael Meath East TD, Helen McEntee, has welcomed the announcement that a new school building is to be provided for the Eureka post-primary school in Kells.
The project has been announced as part of the latest phase of the Government's school building programme, and will be delivered as part of a Public Private Partnership.
She said: "It is fantastic news that after a number of years waiting, the Eureka school is finally going to get a new school building. The existing site is out-of-date and overburdened, and I am sure that staff, pupils and parents will be delighted with the prospect of a new school building.
"The project, which is being delivered as part of the Government's stimulus package announced last summer, is due to be completed by 2016. The completion of a new school will be a huge boost to the town of Kells, and all of those living in the surrounding areas. This new school will hopefully serve local pupils and parents for decades to come.
"I know a lot of work has been going on at a local level for several years, involving all political parties, in a bid to secure a new building for Eureka. All of those involved should be commended.
"I am sure young families in the Kells area will be particularly heartened by today’s announcement. By the end of 2016, the town will have a modern, new secondary school providing excellent educational and extra-curricular facilities.
"Local employment levels should also receive a boost as part of this announcement, which has the potential to create a significant number of construction jobs. Nationally, 750 jobs are expected to be created through five school building projects."
