Flood Alleviation Work To Begin On Londonbridge

From Monday 8th April to Saturday 20th July inclusive, Dublin City Council is closing Londonbridge Road and Bath Avenue to facilitate essential flood alleviation works to Londonbridge.

The works will significantly help to reduce the possibility of local tidal and river flooding from the Dodder Estuary.

The works include:

• Removal of existing infill parapet walls on Londonbridge


• Excavations into the bridge to construct new foundations

• Construction of new reinforced parapet walls with recycling of existing parapet stone as facing material

• Raising the upstream parapet by 750mm (500mm in glass)

• Raising downstream parapet by 250mm

• Installing wing walls to match in with existing new flood defences

• Strengthening of existing bridge arches

• Carrying out general maintenance on bridge

• Road and footpath reinstatement

• Diversions of existing services within the bridge

The works will be carried out by the Office of Public Works and managed by the Projects Division of Dublin City Council.
